It was another scorcher as Bikenxs coached athletes competed in the 4th stop on the Ontario Cup circuit which also doubled as a Canada Cup MTB race. Riders were challenged with many sections of jagged Canadian Shield granite that caused many flats and DNF’s thoroughout the day.
In the early morning races Maddy Baltovich, competing in only her second Cup race, charged to a second place in the Cadet women category, with Keegan Mulcahy attacking the rocks for a top ten finish, while Jessica Lai flatted in the notorious first rock garden on her initial lap.
In the second race of the day Rick Andersen battled the heat and rocky course to move into the top ten in the Master Sport men race until he had to run in the final few km with a nasty slice in his rear tire, eventually settling for 13th.
In the third race Trent Meyers racing in the Elite category was settling into a top 30 position riding in a tight 6 man group but was pulled with just 10 seconds short of the cut off for the pro peloton as the leaders were pushing the lap pace. Haley Golding worked hard to finish 8th in the Junior Expert women race.
In the final race of the day the cadet men had a royal battle with Liam Mulcahy holding off all chargers to take his first Canada Cup win and the top spot on the podium. Tyler Orschel and Malcolm Barton had great races trying to hold off the Quebec riders finishing 4th and 6th respectively. Getting back into the race game, coach Eric Orschel attacked at the end of the 3rd lap on the steep and rocky Logan’s Run to claim 3rd in the Master Expert race.
With a short week riders will be back at it at Hardwood Hills for the Canadian National Championships. Thanks to all riders for making the trip up to Sudbury for a challenging and enjoyable race!
